Unhook The Stars

Nick Cassavetes based his debut feature on an outline by his father, actor-director John Cassavetes, and cast in the lead his father's muse (and Nick Cassavetes's mother), Gena Rowlands. She plays a widow, ignored by her grown children, who gets increasingly involved in the troubled lives of her neighbors when a battered young mother (Marisa Tomei) asks her to look after her son. Their growing bond gives them the strength to look past the boundaries in their lives. Rowlands and Tomei each received nominations from the Screen Actors Guild.
