The Snapper
Audiences were introduced to the world of Irish novelist Roddy Doyle's Barrytown in the 1991 hit "The Commitments." Here, Doyle and Stephen Frears adapt another Barrytown tale, a gentle comedy in which the burgeoning household of an exasperated but likeable plasterer (Colm Meaney) is shaken when his unmarried daughter discovers she is pregnant and has "a snapper" on the way. The identity of the father remains a mystery, and the local gossips are only too happy to speculate.
