Margot Kidder stars in Brian De Palma's first major critical success, a dark, low-budget thriller transfused with macabre humor and more than a little inspiration from Alfred Hitchcock classics. A newspaper reporter (Jennifer Salt) is convinced some deadly things are afoot when she glimpses a dying man gesturing for help from the window of an apartment inhabited by an aspiring model (Kidder). Featuring one of the last scores by Bernard Herrmann, whom De Palma engaged after Herrmann had been forgotten by the Hollywood studios.
