Love Me If You Dare
Yann Samuell's "Love Me if You Dare" appears to be yet another stylistic exercise in French romantic whimsy. But the true heart of this twisted fairy tale is both subversive and pitch black. Best friends since age eight, Julien (Guillaume Canet) and Sophie (Marion Cotillard) are soul-mates bonded in a perverse asexual pas-de-deux of escalating dares, enacted over the course of three decades. Simultaneously maddening and enchanting, Samuell's audacious film challenges audience preconceptions and even dares the viewer to love it.
