George Washington (2000)

This first feature from David Gordon Green is a gentle snapshot of early adolescence and the dreams and hopes grown in a rural community. Set in a small North Carolina town one hot summer, the film follows a group of friends barely in their teens as they experience love, deal with tragedy and learn a little more about their capabilities. Featuring a group of non-professional actors, including Candace Evanofski, Curtis Cotton III and Damien Jewan Lee, this mesmerizing film received many awards including the New York Film Critics Circle Award.
