Beautiful Kate

A middle-aged author (Ben Mendelsohn) brings his uncouth younger girlfriend to the family farm in Australia, where he hopes to heal the wounds of his family's deeply dysfunctional past with his father (Bryan Brown), a failed politician who is in no mood to reconcile many years after the deaths of his two other children. Actress Rachel Ward makes her directing debut with this drama based on the novel by Newton Thornburg ("Cutter's Way").
