Scientists unwisely blend human DNA with that extracted from a prehistoric dire wolf skeleton, resulting in a rampaging, carnivorous creature that must be hunted down and stopped by a local sheriff and two federal agents before it wipes out the entire mountain community of Santa Mira Springs.
