The Scarlet Letter

Demi Moore is Hester Prynne in this adaptation of Nathaniel Hawthorne's classic novel from director Roland Joffe ("The Killing Fields"). When her husband Roger (Robert Duvall) is reported lost at sea, free-spirited Hester has a heated encounter with Rev. Arthur Dimmesdale (Gary Oldman), producing a child and enraging their fellow 17th century Puritan settlers, while Roger, driven mad by captivity with Indians, returns to seek the identity of his wife's lover. Joan Plowright, Robert Prosky, Roy Dotrice, Dana Ivey and Eric Schweig costar.
