ABOUT
Where available, this program has a Dolby Digital 5.l soundtrack, the same state-of-the-art surround technology that truly "puts you in the picture" when you see a film in a theatre.
Dolby Digital 5.1 has titles airing on Showtime, The Movie Channel, Sundance and FLIX. |
"5.1" refers to the number of sound channels on the soundtrack. There are five full-range channels - left, center, right, left surround, and right surround - plus a bass-only (.1) channel that carries those low rumbles and other special effects you feel as much as you hear.
To hear this soundtrack in 5.1 surround, you need a cable or satellite receiver equipped with a digital audio output that will "pass through" the Dolby Digital soundtrack.
You also need a playback system with Dolby Digital 5.1 decoding, and five speakers:
- two on either side of the TV as in a stereo system (left and right channels);
- one atop or beneath the TV set (center channel), and two surround speakers,
- one to each side of the listening area above the listeners' heads.
You also have the option of adding a subwoofer to give those powerful low bass effects plenty of punch.

| (Note: if your set-top box has only an analog stereo output or if this program is otherwise unavailable in 5.1, you will receive a Dolby Surround encoded stereo soundtrack. It will provide regular mono or stereo sound on a mono or stereo TV set or audio system, or surround sound on an audio system with Dolby Pro Logic or Pro Logic II decoding and multiple speakers.) |
