Why do the number of episodes per season vary? Unlike broadcast networks that always air 22 episodes in order to attract as much advertising money as possible, premium cable allows us the freedom to tell our story in as many episodes as we need. Is the show available on VHS or DVD? Paramount Home Entertainment released the first season of Soul Food on DVD on June 24, 2003. It is a 5 disc set that includes all 20 episodes from Season 1. Encore episodes of Season 5 will air on SHOWTIME on Sundays at 11pm ET/PT - beginning February 29. Will episodes of Soul Food air elsewhere? Yes. The BET Network will air select episodes of Soul Food from Season #1 starting Friday, October 10 at 9:00pm.
