The T. Howard Foundation, a Washington, D.C.-based organization charged with a mission to provide opportunities for underrepresented minorities in the entertainment and telecommunications industries, has created “The T. Howard Foundation Student Film Competition” to showcase short films (of 5 to 10 minutes duration) made by students of color and women. Showtime Networks Inc., in a new partnership with the foundation, will assist in identifying the Best Film in competition and host a 10-week paid apprenticeship for the student at the premium network, which will be funded by The T. Howard Foundation. In addition, the winning short will have its world premiere on SHOWTIME.
The T. Howard Foundation Student Film Competition follows similar ventures that SHOWTIME has sponsored with graduate students from NYU’s Kanbar Institute of Film and Television and the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television. This competition also augments Showtime’s efforts to develop and support minority filmmakers through the Black Filmmakers Showcase and the Latino Filmmakers Showcase. |
