Bridgette Bird is a young single mother living in South Boston. She is unfiltered, headstrong and scrappy, doing whatever it takes to get ahead and provide for her son, Larry. She is income-challenged and is always searching for creative ways to make ends meet. While Bridge desperately wants to create a healthy life for Larry, she is often drawn back into old, toxic patterns with her mother, and baby daddy, Rafi.
Rafi is Bridgette’s recently sober baby daddy. He is a devoted father who is invested in having a successful co-parenting relationship with Bridge. This is complicated by his relationship with Nelson, a hot Australian sportscaster. Rafi desperately wants to please Bridge and Nelson, but often fails to do so. He is always starting up new business ventures with his friend, and sober living roommate, Carlos.
Rafi's new girlfriend is a gorgeous, Australian sportscaster who is relentlessly optimistic. She firmly believes in the power of positive thinking and is constantly enforcing these beliefs on those around her.
Bridgette’s best and oldest friend from high school is sarcastic, self-deprecating and is always there to help Bridge out. Eliza is a big girl and she embraces it, even if others in her life give her a hard time about it.
Larry is Bridgette’s young son and partner in crime. As Bridge can’t afford a babysitter, he is often with her wherever she goes. Rafi and Bridge love Larry though often disagree on how to parent him.
Bridgette’s tough, opinionated, and narcissistic mother is a South Boston native who is resistant to change of any kind, especially within her neighborhood. Tutu struggles with manic depression and has a volatile relationship with almost everyone in her life, especially Bridge.
Ally is Bridgette's boss, an over-sharing, overly familiar mother of three, who is entirely dependent on her household staff and considers them her best friends (whether they like it or not).
