Chris Rock is struggling comedian Lance Burton, who is taken long before his time by an anxious angel and finds temporary refuge back on Earth in the body of a prejudiced, white millionaire. Soon Lance ("Charles" to those who only know him by his new identity) is wooing a community rights activist (Regina King) and dodging a bullet as his wife and her lover try to kill him.
