Australian filmmaker Jane Campion ("Sweetie," "An Angel at My Table") crafted this dream-like, haunting masterpiece that won three Oscars and the Palme d'Or at Cannes. Holly Hunter stars as a mute Scottish woman named Ada who, along with her daughter Flora (Anna Paquin), travels to remote New Zealand to become the wife of a brutish farmer (Sam Neill). Stifled by her arranged marriage, Ada agrees to give piano lessons to a taciturn, free-spirited settler (Harvey Keitel) and ends up in her student's arms - sparking a violent confrontation.
