Troy (Denzel Washington) works as a sanitation worker while trying to raise his family amid the complicated race relations of 1950s Pittsburgh. Faced with the sobering everyday reality that he was never able to reach professional baseball, Troy creates strife within his family when he ruins his son’s dreams of playing college football.
